UAA volleyball team suffers rare home-court sweep


For the primary time in almost three years, the UAA volleyball workforce was on the dropping finish of a house-courtroom sweep on the Alaska Airways Middle.

The 14th-ranked Seawolves have been stricken by hitting errors Friday in a 25-21, 25-22, 25-14 loss to 24th-ranked Cal Baptist on the D2 West Area Volleyball Showcase.

UAA completed with almost as many hitting errors (23) as kills (26) and completed with a group assault proportion of .024. Two of the staff’s prime hitters completed with damaging assault percentages — Leah Swiss (minus .025) and Diana Fa’amausili (minus .071).

Cal Baptist hit .177 and received nice performances from its prime hitters — McKenna Witt hit .310 with thirteen kills and Lauren Hackett hit .300 with 14 kills. As a staff, the Lancers hit .177 wth forty five kills.

Fa’amausili had a staff-excessive six kills and Keala Kaio-Perez had a group-excessive 18 digs for the Seawolves (three-three).

The final staff to comb UAA at residence was Northwest Nazarene on Oct. 25, 2014.

The Seawolves get an opportunity to get again on monitor Saturday once they play two extra nationally ranked opponents. They face fifteenth-ranked Concordia-Irvine at 10:30 a.m.and eleventh-ranked Cal State San Bernardino within the event finale at 7 p.m.

Western Washington stormed again from a two-set deficit to knock off Cal State San Bernardino in 5 units 25-19, 20-25, 20-25, 25-15, 15-12.

Junior Abby Phelps delivered 15 kills, 15 digs and 4 aces for the Vikings, who acquired the job achieved in 2 hours, 2 minutes. Michaela Corridor chipped in 12 kills and 7 block assists, Joelee Buckner checked in with 10 kills and 6 block assists, and Joslyn Bopray contributed one block and 9 block assists.

Senior Lauren Nicholson led the Coyotes with a match-excessive 20 kills and in addition furnished 20 digs. Moira Murphy and Hailey Jackson had sixteen and eleven kills, respectively, and Leila To’omalatai added 27 digs.

Senior Olivia Mediano’s thirteen kills and 19 digs helped spark Chico State to a 4-set win over Concordia Irvine 25-23, 25-22, 22-25, 25-21.
