TAUNTON, Mass. (AP) – A Massachusetts sheriff who proposed sending county jail inmates to assist President Donald Trump construct a wall alongside the U.S.-Mexico border is providing to ship inmates to Texas to assist clear up injury from Hurricane Harvey.
Bristol County Sheriff Thomas Hodgson tells WBZ NewsRadio the undertaking can be an economical method to assist with catastrophe aid. He says 10 inmates have expressed curiosity within the challenge.
He says he hopes federal catastrophe aid funds can cowl inmates’ transportation and housing prices.
The plan would wish approval from the Federal Emergency Administration Company, native sheriffs concerned and the Nationwide Sheriffs’ Affiliation.
Hodgson says he has been in touch with the sheriffs affiliation. The affiliation didn’t instantly reply to a request for remark Tuesday.
Hodgson and Trump are each Republicans.
