WASHINGTON (AP) – The highest Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee has launched a transcript from an interview with the co-founding father of Fusion GPS, the agency that commissioned a file of allegations about President Donald Trump’s ties to Russia.
California Sen. Dianne Feinstein launched the transcript from an August closed-door committee interview with Glenn Simpson after the Republican chairman of the committee, Iowa Sen. Chuck Grassley, declined to. Simpson’s agency commissioned the file, which was initially paid for by a conservative web site and later by Democrats.
The file was written by former British MI6 agent Christopher Steele.
Trump has derided the file as politically motivated, and a number of other GOP-led committees are investigating whether or not it shaped the idea for the FBI’s preliminary investigation into Russian election interference.
Democrats says these investigations are a distraction.
