Professors get $300,000 grant for digital fake-news detector

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. (AP) – Two Penn State professors have acquired $300,000 from the Nationwide Science Basis to develop know-how that may allow digital units to weed out pretend information.

The college says info sciences and know-how professor Dongwon Lee and communications professor S. Shyam Sundar are engaged on the challenge.

Lee says pretend information “has been round for many years” however has been “exacerbated” on the web and social media platforms.

The professors plan to research “attribute indicators of faux information” and develop complicated formulation that may allow digital units to acknowledge these indicators and purge tales that include them.

Sundar has researched the psychology of on-line information consumption for 20 years.
