WASHINGTON (AP) – The Trump administration will waive federal restrictions on overseas ships’ transportation of cargo to hurricane-ravaged Puerto Rico.

White Home Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders stated on Twitter Thursday that President Donald Trump has “approved the Jones Act be waived for Puerto Rico.” She says Trump is responding to a request from the governor, and it “will go into impact instantly.”

The Jones Act is a bit-recognized federal regulation that prohibits overseas-flagged ships from shuttling items between U.S. ports.
