Pres. Trump scales back 2 big Utah national monuments

WASHINGTON (AP) – President Donald Trump has signed proclamations to formally reduce two sprawling nationwide monuments in Utah: Bears Ears and Grand-Staircase Escalante.

Trump traveled to Salt Lake Metropolis to make the announcement and signal the declarations. The transfer is supported by Utah’s prime Republican officers however opposed by tribes and environmental teams.

Trump stated in a speech Monday on the Utah State Capitol that previous presidential administrations had “severely abused” the aim and spirt of a federal regulation that permits them to guard public lands by turning them into nationwide monuments.

Trump says his motion signifies that “public lands will as soon as once more be for public use.”
