GRANTS PASS, Ore. (AP) – A district lawyer says a Josephine County sheriff’s sergeant was justified in killing a person who pulled a gun on him final month outdoors a Dairy Queen in Cave Junction.
District Lawyer Ryan Mulkins says Jeff Burleson had been arrested in Florida for aggravated assault with a lethal weapon and home violence by strangulation. After posting bail, he eliminated an digital monitoring gadget and went to Oregon.
Mulkins says Sgt. James Geiger and different officers noticed a pickup related to Burleson on Jan. 12 and adopted it into the Dairy Queen parking zone.
Police approached and informed Burleson and the driving force to place their palms up. As an alternative, Mulkins says, Burleson pushed the driving force apart and pointed a handgun at Geiger, who shot Burleson within the hand, arm and chest.
