North Charlotte road scheduled to reopen following sinkhole repairs

A north Charlotte street that was washed out by storms and was shut down for a number of weeks is predicted to reopen Wednesday afternoon.
The 20-foot-broad by 15-foot-deep sinkhole opened August 15 on Mallard Creek Street between Polk and White Street and Johnston Oehler Street, stretching throughout each lanes.

The street was shut down for over two weeks.
A spokesperson with the North Carolina Division of Transportation stated the street was compromised “due to lots rain we collected in a brief period of time and a few fill beneath the roadway washed out.”
The NCDOT stated that the street is predicted to reopen by 5 p.m. Wednesday.
“The pavement received weaker and there was standing water on the roadway in order that created additionally a really huge security concern as a result of you’ll be able to’t see the street beneath all that standing water,” Jen Thompson, a spokesperson with the NCDOT, stated.
