North Carolina redistricting maps OKd, head to judges next

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) – North Carolina legislators have accomplished the remapping of Home and Senate districts, required by a courtroom order to be accomplished by later this week. Now, Republicans who drew them should see whether or not judges will log off on the brand new strains.

The Home voted Wednesday to approve the Senate map after a brief debate. A number of hours earlier, the Senate voted for the Home boundaries . The 2 chambers already accepted their very own strains earlier this week.

A panel of federal judges set Friday’s deadline for maps to be authorised. These judges beforehand dominated 28 districts accepted in 2011 have been unlawful racial gerrymanders.

The brand new maps seem to retain Republican majorities. Democrats against the maps warned judges might throw them out, too, as a result of mapmakers did not think about the racial knowledge of voters.
