ND Highway Patrol transitioning to black vehicles, easier to see in winter storm…


“Black automobiles will improve the security of the motoring public as nicely our officers, as a result of they’re simpler to see throughout white-out circumstances,” stated NDHP Colonel Mike Gerhart.

Forty new black automobiles are on order and will probably be built-in into the fleet starting January 2018.  

“The primary North Dakota Freeway Patrol automobiles in 1935 have been black and we’re going again to our roots,” stated Capt. Aaron Hummel, NDHP Administrative Providers Division Commander.

Since then, patrol automobiles have been many colours, together with grey, silver, gold, maroon, and brown, to call a number of. The brown automobiles transitioned to white within the late-Nineteen Eighties and early Nineteen Nineties.

The NDHP fleet is comprised of one hundred seventy five patrol car, based on Main Brandon Solberg, NDHP Chief of Employees.

“We consider there’s a potential for greater resale worth at public sale for the black automobiles versus the white automobiles, which might save taxpayer dollars,”  stated Solberg.
