A black man is struggling for his life after being severely crushed in a racist assault earlier this month in Auburn.
DaShawn Horne, 26, was attacked on January 20 with a baseball bat by Julian Pailate Tuimauga, charging paperwork allege. Tuimauga shall be arraigned Monday.
“It’s arduous, particularly if you train your youngsters to like and be type to everyone, it doesn’t matter what their race is,” stated LaDonna Horne, DaShawn Horne’s mom.
Horne had spent the night time with Tuimauga’s sister and was ready for a Lyft about 10:30 a.m. when Tuimauga got here outdoors the house and hit Horne twice within the head with an aluminum baseball bat. Horne fell, and Tuimauga continued to beat Horne’s head and physique, in accordance with paperwork.
Tuimauga informed police he was “in a rage” when he struck Horne. Tuimauga advised police Horne’s relationship together with his sister angered him, and he confronted Horne within the driveway of his and his sister’s residence.
“For anyone to principally sneak assault him from behind, caught him off guard, no one expects that,” stated Rodney King, Horne’s uncle.
In the course of the assault, the Lyft driver informed police he heard Tuimauga say, “That is what occurs whenever you convey black individuals round right here.”
At one level, Tuimauga recorded video of the Horne and yelled, “That’s what occurs to n****** out right here, huh?” based on paperwork.
The Lyft driver referred to as 911, and Horne was discovered respiration, however unresponsive.
Horne was rushed to Harborview Medical Middle, the place he stays within the Intensive Care Unit with life-threatening accidents. Elements of Horne’s skull needed to be eliminated to alleviate mind swelling, and he has not regained consciousness.
