House, Senate don't touch each other's redistricting plans

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) – North Carolina Home and Senate members are sticking with custom by declining to intrude with the opposite chamber’s proposed district boundaries.

The Senate redistricting committee voted Tuesday for a brand new Home map drawn by Republicans and permitted by the Home on Monday. There was no debate. The Home redistricting committee adopted the identical sample later Tuesday and endorsed the Senate proposal already accepted by the Senate.

GOP leaders face a Friday deadline from federal judges to approve new maps after the judges struck down almost 30 present districts as unlawful racial gerrymanders. All that is left is to satisfy the deadline is for the complete Home to vote on the Senate plan and the Senate to vote on the Home plan. These flooring votes are anticipated to start Wednesday.
