EPA delayed chemical safety rule after industry complaints

WASHINGTON (AP) – The Trump administration delayed an Obama-period rule that may have tightened security necessities for corporations that retailer giant portions of harmful chemical compounds such because the chemical plant close to Houston that exploded early Thursday.

The Environmental Safety Company rule would have required chemical crops – together with the now-destroyed Arkema Inc. plant outdoors Houston – to make public the kinds and portions of chemical compounds saved on website. The rule was developed after a 2013 explosion at a Texas fertilizer plant.

EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt prevented the security rule from taking impact till 2019 to permit the company time to rethink business objections. Corporations stated the rule might make it simpler for terrorists and different criminals to focus on refineries and chemical crops.

Environmental teams and eleven states are preventing the delay in courtroom.
