Edney, 2-time temporary leader of Alcorn State, dies


LORMAN, Miss. (AP) – Norris Allen Edney Sr., who twice served because the momentary chief of Alcorn State College in Mississippi, has died.

The college says in a information launch that Edney died Saturday at his residence in Natchez. He was eighty one.

Mackel & Sons Funeral Residence says providers are eleven a.m. Friday at Rose Hill Baptist Church in Natchez.

Edney was interim president of Alcorn State from February 2010 to January 2011 and appearing president from December 2013 to March 2014.

Edney started his profession at Alcorn State as a biology teacher in 1963. He later turned chairman of the Biology Division, dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, dean of graduate research and interim dean of the nursing faculty.

He was president of the Southwestern Athletic Convention from 1979 to1984.
