DUI suspect pleads not guilty in Modesto officer’s death


A person accused of hitting and killing a Modesto police sergeant whereas driving drunk pleaded not responsible in courtroom Tuesday.

Matthew Gibbs, 32, of Modesto, was charged with homicide and DUI in reference to Sgt. Michael Pershall’s dying, officers stated.

Pershall, who was off-obligation, was driving his bike final week when he was hit from behind by a automotive, the California Freeway Patrol stated.

The driving force, Gibbs, stayed on the scene after the crash and was arrested, CHP stated.

A memorial service for Pershall shall be held Wednesday morning on the Cross Level Group Church. Will probably be adopted by a procession to the cemetery.
