4-time Iditarod champion Jeff King put himself on the public sale block at Saturday night time’s Talkeetna Bachelor Public sale, and the end result was historic.
A date with King bought for $four,600 — a document for the annual fundraiser that goes again to 1981.
“That is an all-time excessive bid, beating our previous excessive by about $1800.00!!” Sara Sickler of the Talkeetna Bachelor Society wrote in an e mail.
Sickler stated different mushers have been auctioned off through the years, however she thinks King is the primary Iditarod champion.
King took the stage on the Sheldon Group Arts Hangar sporting his bib from the 2016 race — No. sixty one, which matches his age.
King strolled the runway forwards and backwards amid shrieks and shouts from a wild viewers, at one level shoving a stuffed animal out of the fly of his outfit. A pink rose and a pair of handcuffs in a single hand, he pumped his arms because the auctioneer rallied the bids larger and better.
His date package deal included a glacier-touchdown flightseeing journey with Fly Denali; an ATV tour for 2; a zipline tour for 2; a Husky Homestead tour for 4; and a room and breakfast on the Grand Denali Lodge — “this acquired bumped as much as a 2 night time keep whereas he was on stage,” Sickler stated.
The profitable bid of $four,600 represents extra money than was gained by 37 of the sixty four mushers who completed the 2017 race to Nome. Funds from the public sale profit various organizations that help households in disaster, in accordance with the Talkeetna Bachelor Society web site.
